I was up at 5:25 to complete final preparations for a "fun" class. I think I made an important point last week to all of my students. "You need to be having fun while we are together or it will be a long and boring four weeks". Every so often, I ask them one on one or in a group. "Are you having fun". Every hour they are given three choices on activities I have for them and I let them vote on the one they prefer. I walk out of the room and let them talk for one minute and when I return, Pompan, Kitty, Bling or Rum have to give me their decision. I always ask, "did you pick the fun one"? Today was a lot of me asking questions, they responded to open ended questions. We went to the park next door to the school and talked about the weather, the clothe they were wearing and how to ask and get directions. I could use them to get help for myself in asking directions in Thai. Four of my students came up and said "we have much fun today". I said, "no you did not". They looked at me funny and I said, "we had a lot of fun today". ha ha!
Trip to the hospital...
I have had a lesion that has been getting increasingly large on the back of my leg. (1/2 inch across). I first noticed it three days ago. It has been getting larger and more and more infected. The perimeter has become dark red and the skin is not healing. I went to the hospital, as that is where you go in Thailand when you are not feeling well. There are no clinics or doctor offices. I went without an appointment and was seen in 15 minutes by the doctor of who works specifically with patients with insect bites and infections. He suspects it was a tick but could not tell for sure. He drained the area, prescribed antibiotic cram and Doxycycline. The hospital visit, lesion tests and two prescriptions were $55.00. My entire time there was 50 minutes. Everywhere you go in the hospital it is very organized. Check in, vitals room, doctor's office, cashier, pharmacy with prescription waiting for you. All in less than an hour!
Below: I do not think you are supposed to smile in the hospital like this but the news was not life threatening. I asked for his picture and he called in his nurse. He said, "stand here, it looks professional" as he pointed to the stethoscope and ear lasers. He spoke English well and lived in Florida, Utah and Texas for six years. When I took off my clothe, he said you are from Florida or Chiang Mai. Now if I did not have any previous experience with Thais, I would not have understood what he meant. There is a big difference with the Thais that come from up north. They are very dark compared to light Bangkok/Pattaya Thai.
Warning: Do not look if you have weak stomach. The lesion is not pretty. Now you must be curious though. It's not too bad.
I still needed to eat and I had to eat something to take my antibiotics. I was pleased to find a market that just opened for early supper. Maybe I should have put the lesion pictures last.
I did not order the first item on the menu. It is spicy chicken feet. I am not sure what you eat but for 2 dollars it is a heaping plate of chicken feet. Think of all the money we wasted when we use to kill chickens on the farm. They do not waste anything.
Below: I did have the spicy noodles and vegetables. They were almost too pungent with fresh basil and bay leaves. ,
Thai facts:
