"Until you give your time, and take nothing for your efforts, you will not realize the good that can be achieved and the difference you can make in the lives of others, (and your own)."

I will not be able to post until much later today, but I was sooooooooooo touched today by a song that my students brought in to class to play for me. I needed to take a minute to write a short post with a link to the song. Please take time to listen to the words. There are many homophones, homonyms that exist in the Thai language, as there are in the English language. On the first day of class, many weeks ago, I talked about "FLY". It can mean several things in different contexts. This all began as I sang the song; "shoe fly, don't bother me" as a fly sat on my coffee mug. (The song was originally written in 1896 and was popular over the next hundred years. It was commonly sung during the Spanish American War by soldiers when the flies and the yellow fever mosquito were a serious enemy). I remember being younger than five years old and my mother singing the song to me as I sat in her lap. (and probably fell asleep). The song lead us into discussing the word "fly" and the many meanings one word can have. It was our very first meeting and I told them all that I want them to be able to fly with their new knowledge and be proud of what they will achieve in the next four weeks. We began class today with this song being projected on the 6x8 foot projector screen. Take 1 minute and 57 seconds and listen to the words. It meant everything to me. (cut and paste or click below) Remember 11 men and one woman. They are all strong with their sexual identity but we were all emotional like "girls". Compliment!!!!
