Before any of this blog gets read today, I need to vent about people in Bangkok walking and texting on the sidewalks. It is stupid, but moreover it is maddening as hell. They are holding up dozens of people and walking in front of traffic, nearly getting hit by cars, trucks and BUSES. Step to the side if you have to read a text and then reply. I suspect it is the same in US cities, so Americans, step aside and let the rest of us get to where we are going. Thank you!
I was apprehensive to get to school today because it was the beginning of testing out "hot stuff". I only had to try one dish today, which I was happy about! Thai peanut salad with a very spicy hot dressing. Yes, me head did sweat but it was awesome tasting. It had eight dried hot chili peppers added to the dressing. My student Mack said that it would have been really hot if the seeds were not taken out of the chili peppers. I can't imagine what that would have been like. Good thing. I the adults an assignment over the weekend to write down the plural forms of places they visit and things that they buy. The Thai language does not have a plural form or mode like English. A noun or a verb can be used in both singular and plural modes. You hear Thai people who can speak a little or even a lot of English leave of the plural form or neglect the tense of the verb. We took a walk with clipboards and listed nouns and the actions we performed (verb tenses). I have seen huge improvements in their English and I told them how proud I am of the work they have done to make conscious efforts to correctly use the English language. I told them they could pass as Americans if they wore sunglasses.
Below: Golfing at Krung Kavee was way too hot, but i played 18 holes anyway in the wicked heat. I had to get a cart for the back nine holes, ten dollars, but well worth it. It was 99 degrees at noon today. I was on the golf course as the temperature dropped to 96 degrees. I see why night golf could be popular. Lots of courses have it. This Pelican was in and out of the water, although I doubt the water was very cooling.
Above: This is a picture from the golf course looking at Ponsak Poopatanapong's House (For Sale).
Below: For lunch I had 3/4 of a pound of battered shrimp and pork dumplings. These shrimp are the size of a lobster tail.
This Ironwood tree was on the golf course. The Ironwood (tropical species) were planted by Buddhists each time a monk became enlightened. They are a sacred tree in Southeast Asia.
Thai Facts:
- Thailand is often called the "Golf Capital of Asia", with beautifully kept courses at a reasonable price the country attracts a larger number of golfers from around the world.
- The world famous energy drink Red Bull was created in Bangkok by Chaleo Yoovidhya in 1976. At the time of his death in 2012, Chaleo was the third richest man in Thailand with an estimated wealth of US $5 Billion
